Design and Development of Economical Prosthetic Leg


Designed and fabricated a model low-cost prosthesis for below and above knee amputated people.
Lead the team as design lead and designed an Above and Below Knee prosthetic leg with ankle and knee joint mechanism using Solidworks, Fusion 360 and carried out structural analysis with different loading conditions based on loads due to standing,walking and running on Ansys. Non- toxic,high strength and low cost polymer materials such as HDPE and Polyamide (Nylon 6/6) are the material conditions.
The average cost of a prosthetic leg is about 150 - 1500 USD and our design reduced the cost to 30-40 USD
Further outer enclosure design improvements are to be made to improve the aesthetics.
